- Provide Pre-advising Appointments to review the re-enrollment process, review previously completed credits, explore majors, and answer questions about attending Charlotte.
- Support returning students toward degree completion through personalized advising, re-enrollment requirements, review of general education and current academic policies.
- Connect prospective adult and readmitted students with essential campus resources
- Work collaboratively with academic departments to support development of academic plans for timely degree completion
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to provide accurate information on the readmission process, university policies, and best practices for working with returning students.
OASES to 49er Finish
The Office of Adult Students & Extended Services (OASES) is now 49er Finish: Returning Student & Degree Completion Services, a new name that more clearly reflects the team’s work supporting students as they return to higher education, re-enroll at Charlotte and complete their degrees. Building on the established 49er Finish program, the new identity encompasses its primary areas of support: pre-admission counseling and re-entry advising, stop-out and re-enrollment strategies, and degree-completion pathways and scholarship opportunities for eligible students. While the name is changing, the team’s commitment remains the same: helping students find their path back to Charlotte and across the finish line.
Our History
In fall 2005, the Office of Adult Students & Extended Services started a graduation and retention initiative called the 49er Finish Program to target former undergraduate seniors who stopped out of UNC Charlotte. Recognizing the time, money, and hard work that students have already invested in their education, the program encourages students to continue their success by finishing their degree. In the fall of 2007, we celebrated our first graduates, and nearly 100 students have graduated every year since.
The program won the outstanding advising program award from the National Academic Advising Association in 2009 and the Malcolm Knowles Award for Outstanding Adult Education Program in 2012. The American Association of State Colleges and Universities recognized the 49er Finish Program as an important innovation in public higher education in 2013. In summer of 2015, staff created an innovative model to be emulated by UNC System Institutions.In November of 2015, the program was named a ‘Model of Excellence’ in the winter edition of the University Business Magazine.
